Feed-in Tariff (FiT) Rates

FiT rate will be offered according to the generation capacity of renewable energy power system (REPS).

Notes:
  1. Arrangement for REPS over 1,000 kW will be considered on a case by case basis.
  2. The rates will be effective from 1 January 2019 and subject to an annual review with the Government. One unit of electricity equals to one kWh.

The FiT rate will be fixed from the date when a REPS participates in the FiT Scheme throughout the project life of the REPS or until 31 December 2033, whichever is earlier.


Eligibility

  • A registered customer of HK Electric
  • The REPS should be solar photovoltaic system and/or wind system which is installed within the area covered by the service address of the customer's electricity account

A Quick Reference

You may check on the following ballpark parameters (note 1) of a typical 1 kW solar photovoltaic system for preliminary assessment:

Footprint required ~7-10 m2 or ~70-100 ft2
Annual electricity generation ~1,000 units
Construction costs ~HK$30,000-50,000
Payback period ~6-10 years (note 2)

Notes:
  1. Actual figures will be subject to site conditions and the design of the REPS.
  2. Based on a FiT rate at HK$5/unit.

Customers are advised to engage qualified service providers to ensure that the design, installation, operation and maintenance of REPS at all times comply with all applicable statutory, and safety and technical requirements from time to time.
